Soul Food Archive: Desserts & Snacks

Desserts & Snacks can come in spiritual flavors. There are times when the hearty meal or novel fare just doesn't appeal to our taste buds. Instead, we hunger for small after-dinner tidbits, simple comfort food, the treats of childhood. Here are some assorted tasty morsels and indulgences for times of spiritual play (and, no calories!).

Please visit our Main Courses and Guest Caterer Specials for heavier meals. Also, don't forget our earlier offerings, stored in the Soul Food Archive. Your comments are always welcome. Read others' comments about this page.

MAPS!  Mention the word and you'll almost always get a positive response—because we all use and need maps throughout our lives, whether it be our GPS or a neighborhood map, that of an ancient civilization (as at the top of our picture) or a body scan map or a dance pattern.  Maps make our increasingly complex world accessible.

A Question:  Is it possible that maps of our outer world, such as those above, also correspond to needs in our interior world?  This is the thesis of our eCourse Maps & the Cartography of the Soul.

Here's a snack, or appetizer, from its first session:

Purposes of Maps: Parallel Life Questions:
~ Orient viewer to a site, find one’s place......... Where am I?
~ Document discoveries................................. Where have I been?
~ Give directions, help us find our way............ Where am I going?
~ Make sense of confusion............................. Am I in the right place?
~ Give distances between sites....................... How far do I have to go?
~ Show routes from one site to another........... What are my choices?
~ Mark territorial borders............................... What are my boundaries?
~ Describe ratios of scale and height............... How do I stand with others?
~ Suggest new terrain to explore.................... Where else is there to go?
~ Show danger areas..................................... Are there pitfalls?
~ Capture and frame multiple details............... What is the bigger picture?
~ and much more ~ and much more

•  What two or three maps do I most use in my daily life?

Does any one of them have an interior correspondence to the life of my soul?

On scrolling through your archive, I found this entry on MAPS IN YOUR LIFE. One map that has meant more to me than any is my natal or birth chart--yes, astrology, but sacred astrology not newspaper pop columns. If the chart is a map of the soul's possibilities, what a wonderful treasure. I'd like to know more about this from your perspective. Thanks!

Dear Gregory, Your comment comes under the heading of "funny you should ask!"--as we've been talking more and more about including information about spiritual/psychological astrology on our website. It's a wonderful resource, but we've stayed away from the subject for obvious reasons. Please keep your eye out for our new Soul Food Round Table for more astrological awareness. Thanks!
